Available from The Center for Teaching and Learning are
three annual Fellowships designed to give selected faculty or
instructional staff the opportunity to complete a project of their
own formulation: Service-Learning/Civic Engagement Fellowship;
Diversity Institute; and Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL)
Fellowship.
The fellowships address these goals:
1) to help faculty/instructional staff liberate ideas they just
can’t find the time to try
2) to encourage proof-of-concept or pilot programs for future
external grant proposals
Fellows are provided:
* A resources account of up to $500 to implement the
project
* The aid of a Student Associate from The Center for
Teaching and Learning who will assist you in implementing the
project
* Consultation with the Director or other pertinent
Center staff while implementing the project
About each of
the three fellowships:
1) The
Service-Learning
/ Civic Engagement Fellowship focuses on revising existing experiences for
Truman students so that students’ civic engagement is enhanced. This can be
through infusing service-learning, but can also include infusing other
methodologies such as community oral history or public policy/legislative
communication. Those who attend the May 16, 2008 orientation will be taught how
to apply for $500 micro-grants from
Missouri Campus Compact. Interested Service-learning/Civic Engagement
Fellows are sponsored to attend the Missouri Campus Compact annual conference
Missouri Campus Compact (MoCC) Conference. For more on Service-Learning at
Truman, click
here.
2) The Diversity Institute Fellowship focuses on
enhancing intercultural competence in our community. In addition to support
implementing a project, Diversity Institute Fellows are eligible to be sent to
the
AAC&U Diversity conference.
3) The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) Fellowship mentors faculty research on teaching and learning in their own courses. Interested SoTL Fellows are sponsored to attend the annual CASTL Summer Institute, sponsored by our Carnegie Cluster. For more on SoTL at Truman, click here.
Apply for any of the three fellowships by attending the scheduled orientation meeting for that fellowship. During orientation you will craft your project proposal and create a schedule for implementation which will include: target dates for the disbursement of your fellowship funds; anticipated support you will need from your assigned Student Associate; consulting you will need from other personnel such as the Grants representative, IRB, or the Assessment Specialist; and the beginnings of a list of literature to review. Two additional required meetings will also be scheduled at orientation. RSVP for orientation here.
