(Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act), also known as the
Buckley Amendment, was passed by Congress in 1974. It applies to all
educational agencies or institutions (including Truman) that receive
funds under any program administered by the Department of Education.

Some basic "don'ts" for Truman Faculty:
DO NOT at any time use the social security number, University I.D.
number (Banner number) or any portion of the number of a student in
a public posting of grades.
DO NOT ever link the name of a student with that student's social
security number, University I.D. (Banner) number or a portion of the
number in any public manner.
DO NOT leave graded tests or papers in a stack for students to pick
up by sorting through the tests or papers of other students. (This
is considered the same as public posting of grades.)
DO NOT circulate a printed class list with student name and social
security/university I.D. numbers or grades as an attendance roster.
DO NOT discuss the progress of any student with anyone other than
the student (including parents/guardians) without the consent of the
student.
DO NOT provide anyone with lists of students enrolled in your
classes for any commercial purpose.
DO NOT provide anyone with student schedules or assist anyone other
than University employees in finding a student on campus.
DO NOT notify students of grades via a postcard. It is recommended
that you also NOT send grades through e-mail.
DO NOT access the records of any student for personal reasons.
