Qualities were generated by faculty who attended Session A at the
2003 Master Plan Assessment Workshop July 15 entitled “Student
Perception of Successful Students: Interview Project Findings.” This
session was led by Randy Smith and Kelly Brown.

A successful educator is one who:
-motivates students
-gives money’s worth to students and to university
-synthesizes information
-serves as a role model
-generates learning
-assists students in learning
-shows how to use new technology and library resources
-admits to weaknesses and takes steps to overcome them
-gives students ownership in the course
-provides a different perspective on the world and the system
-refereed journal articles (I thought the discussion said NOT on
this campus)
-flexible, able to adapt to student needs
-adaptable, able to work with colleagues
-collegiality
-professional within relationships
-positive attitude (most of the time!)
-genuinely has the desire to develop students
